Ernesto Rancaño

To understand Cuban art as part of a cultural process, in which various trends and styles are involved, key names would jump out that, even as protagonists of certain movements or stages, continue to develop a discourse in accordance with the current contemporary context. This is the case of Ernesto M. Rancaño (Havana, 1968-2022), who with almost thirty years of artistic practice, numerous awards, recognitions and exhibitions, insists on maintaining that poetic breath that moves from experimentation to mysticism. Exceptional draftsman, who reconstructs the timeless from the graphite line as a reliable guide of his own eyes. Delirious observer and symbolist, who is pleased to assume the image of the hummingbird, as a leitmotif and self-referential element; either because of the vitality, the silence, the exoticism, the sensuality, or the Cubanness that surrounds it.
